Mandal headquarters. The headquarters town carries the mandal name in the district mandal listings used; no separately named headquarters village was published in those sources, so none is asserted. Pulivendula revenue division. The 1915 Cuddapah Gazetteer records that the brahmotsavam of the Vrishabhachaleswaraswami temple here 'used to be conducted with great splendour, but, owing, it is said, to dissensions between the Komatis and Kapus, such is not now the case. The Kapus claim to be garlanded at the time of the festival, and the Komatis have in recent years objected, a point of some interest in that it affords evidence of the increasing importance of the trading community and its claim to equal consideration with the cultivating class.'
