Municipality (Grade II, upgraded 2019; listed as Second Grade Municipality, constituted 2005) and headquarters of Rajampeta revenue division. Returned to YSR Kadapa district in the 2025 reorganisation, having been placed in Annamayya district at its 2022 formation. The Rajampet Wikipedia page quotes 127,027, which appears to be the assembly-constituency figure rather than the town - the district ULB table figure of 75,457 is used here. TIER 1 and TIER 3. Mandal headquarters of Rajampeta mandal, Rajampeta revenue division. The 1915 Cuddapah Gazetteer ranks Rajampet among the district's commercial towns, 'situated in the busiest part of the eastern division of the district and easily accessible from Madras, the port from which are conveyed such of the products of the district as find their way to other countries.'
