Mandal headquarters, Nagari revenue division, per the official district portal's mandal list. Name spelled as the district portal gives it. The Madras District Manual for North Arcot, Vol. II (1894) describes Karvetinagar (Karvetnagar) as 'a large place, having a population of 6,046' that 'has long been the residence of the zemindars', 7 miles west of Puttur, formerly walled and fortified. It was the seat of the Karvetnagar zamindari, one of the principal estates of the tract. The manual attributes no particular merchant community to it.
