DOCUMENTED KOMATI / ARYA VYSYA MERCHANT VILLAGE. The Madras District Manual for North Arcot, Vol. II (1894), which then covered this tract, describes Baireddipalli as 'a very flourishing village 12 miles to the south-west of Palmaner' with 'post office, police station and chatram', population 1,256, which 'carries on much trade in gram, tamarind, jaggery, sugar, and sugarcandy, the last mentioned being here manufactured in large quantities.' It states: 'Many of the inhabitants are Komatis, who seem to be in very well-to-do circumstances, their houses being better built and more commodious than those seen elsewhere on the plateau.' The 1,256 figure is the manual's own 19th-century count and is not recorded as a modern population. Baireddipalli is today a mandal headquarters in the Palamaneru revenue division of Chittoor district. Mandal headquarters, Palamaneru revenue division, per the official district portal's mandal list.
