District headquarters. The first local administrator with the designation of tahsildar was appointed to Jangaon town in 1935 by the then Nizam; that tahsildar plus five eminent townsmen governed as a committee for 17 years until the first elections in 1952, when the municipality was constituted and the town divided into wards. Jangaon (Cherial) taluka was transferred from Warangal to Nalgonda district in 1905 and returned to Warangal district in 1953.
