Named in the 1907 gazetteer (p.64) as one of the two most important cattle fairs on the plains of Vizagapatam district, in Srungavarapukota taluk. Madras District Gazetteers, Vizagapatam Vol. I (1907), Occupations and Trade, p.130-131: 'In the plain taluks, the greater part of the trade is in the hands of the Komati caste' (Komati = Arya Vysya), with Kapus, Balijas, Pattu Sales and Devangas taking a smaller share and a few Marwaris in the bigger towns financing operations. Modern mandal assignment (Srungavarapukota) follows the gazetteer's taluk and has not been re-verified against a current LGD record.
